New year, new you?

It’s that time of year again when a lot of us get to thinking about New Years resolutions… I’ve spent some time thinking about the ones I’ve made and never stuck to, the ones I say I’ll get around to but don’t and the huge impossible ideals I set for myself and never achieve.

Last year, I decided I wouldn’t actually set any New Years revolutions for myself, not a one. I just started setting small goals for myself. I stuck to some of them, forgot others and created many new ones along the way.

One of the goals I set for myself in 2018 was delving deeper in the field of nutrition and wellness and sharing it with others – this is why I started this space. This blog is a way for me to go for something that is outside of my comfort zone, raw and honest and exposed, all the while (hopefully) inspiring and helping others. I thought about it and procrastinated for a long time until I just though, “screw it, I’m doing it”. And I’m so glad I did ❤️

This year, I want to do so much more but I want to attempt everything differently; I tend to be an “all or nothing” kind of girl. For example, every festive season I over do it with food and drink 🍷 only to promise myself that “as of January, I’m not going to eat or drink ANYTHING I shouldn’t”. This lasts for about a week or two until I go out for dinner somewhere and then I’m like “to hell with it, we only live once, bring me a chocolate fondant”.

This is something I’ve REALLY tried very hard to work on. I didn’t just do this with food of course, I used to set impossible goals for myself and then give up because I didn’t manage whatever impossible target it may have been.

Finally, for the first time in my life, I feel that I’ve become more balanced in my approach to everything; no more obsessing about silly things, no more giving up, no more impossible goals. I try to do it all and then some, but I’ve stopped trying to do it all at once. I’ve realize that when I try to do too much too soon, I get overwhelmed and exhausted and end up throwing in the towel and not doing very much at all. At least not much I’m proud of!

This year, I’m going to try something a little different. I want to take the time to think about things every month and set an achievable goals for myself for whatever I feel I need to work on at that given time.

More than anything else, I want to work on projects that excite me, namely in the field of nutrition, wellness and food. All the while I want to remind myself to listen to my gut, do what feels right, to stop stressing and to just trust the process.

“Everything is always as it needs to be”

This is one of my favorite quotes, or mantras if you will, that I do try, and will continue to remind myself every time I doubt what I’m doing or don’t get the result I want in whatever it is I’m trying to achieve. I think we live such a fast paced life that it’s easy to be impatient, and for me, that’s something I definitely need to work on – big time!

I will definitely practice more gratitude and mindfulness. I feel that sometimes, with busy days, looming deadlines and never ending to do lists, I tend to forget or neglect how incredibly lucky I am. Practicing gratitude is not about having it all, it’s about appreciating what you have, above all, I want to remind myself how immensely lucky I am to have my health, my loved ones and boundless opportunities.

I want to remind myself to do what it is I feel is right or whatever it is I feel I should do, regardless of any fears or insecurities. I want to take the time to sit with myself and just be, I want to be more present and mindful, I want to work hard and achieve improbable (never impossible) goals all the while appreciating everything that I already have and that I’ve already done.

“(S)He who thinks (s)he can and (s)he who thinks (s)he can’t are both normally right!”

This is another quote I absolutely love and will try my very best to live by. We are what we believe, we achieve what we believe we can, what we believe we deserve…. allow yourself to believe you can. Whatever it is you want to do, believe you can do it, work at it and never give up. Life is too short to waste time not doing something that sets your soul on fire! Just go for it!

“Let go of what no longer serves you”

Finally, I will leave you with this quote or mantra right here. I love this so much and quietly repeating it to myself after a difficult day has helped me immensely. Whatever it is, be it past experience, self doubt, insecurity, difficult experiences, negativity….just let it go. If it does not serve you in any way, if it does not help you become the person you want to be, if it is no longer useful to you, if you feel you are dragged down by whatever it is, just let it go.

I would like to wish you all the very best, for today and for always. Thank you for taking the time to be here and to read this, it means a lot to me to be able to share a little part of myself with you!

May the beginning of this new year bring with it whatever your heart desires!  May the best of 2018 be the worst of 2019 ❤️🍾
